We have one more opening for a working student, 20 hours per week minimum.Needs to work at least one weekend day. You will learn more about riding (dressage, jumping, trails), as well as the principles and exercises that are involved in groundwork, natural horsemanship (sic). You will have lessons in groundwork and riding in exchange for your time. You will learn how to school horses, prepare them for sale, and show them for sale. You will learn about the world of horse rescue, and be involved in saving horses from slaughter. Opportunities for caring for, re-training and re-homing can be a part of your job description. Some schools have programs where you can get school credit.

Our hiring process involves a 15 hour training program. Every 5 hours one receives a lesson in riding and/or groundwork. One can decide after a five, 10 or 15 hour shift, if this is an environment they would enjoy, and they would be a match for our program.

Ideally we are looking for someone who can make a year's commitment to the Icssoma Farm Llc. For every year one stays they will receive a bonus. In the best of all worlds, someone would be looking for a career in riding/training/teaching, running a barn, etc.
Working Students to Paid Positions
Working Students:
Icssoma Farm Llc has 1 position for part time/full time working students. Students will have lessons for hours worked. Topics covered will be barn management, riding: dressage & jumping, and trails. Natural Horsemanship ground work, and training methods, and a fluid connection between handling, round pen work, lunging, and riding. Each student will work 4-5 shifts, 20 hours total (or more). School credit may be possible for SRJC students as well as others. All students who have completed 8 months in a working student position, have received employment in the equestrian field.
We are looking for those who have at least training level dressage, or comparable skills. Compensation will be in form of lessons for hours worked, 3-5 hours of work for each lesson depending on private, or semi-private, and instructor. Students will have the opportunity to ride horses on their own, between successful lessons. Their will be some limited opportunities for paid work. We will give preference to students who live close to our Sebastopol location. There will be a generous stipend at the end of this one year program. Candidates must be 18 years of age, or have their 18th birthday this year. You must have your own health insurance.
