In Memoriam-Shamus
Today my heart is full of love and sorrow Shamus, on this day when we must transition our relationship to another level of being. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being my horse, for fulfilling my dream of having my very own horse, and for allowing me to come into your life. You have never let me down, not once. You have always done what I asked of you, and given me more. Thank you for being my best friend, my favorite companion, my soul mate. We found and rescued each other-it was mutual. I can only hope I have given you half of what you gave to me. You lifted me up and allowed me to love someone unconditionally, you gave me courage to try the unknown, and most of all, you gave me trust in another being.
You are my hero Shamus, and I can only hope that I can live with half as much heart that you have. Thank you for being who you are; I will always carry you in my heart and your spirit will be with me always. Thank you for being the best horse I could ever have;
it has been a privilege to have you in my life.
Now, my friend, take your spirit and fly, fly up those hills like you so love to do. I will see you in the stars every night and know that one day we will see each other again and then we will fly together up those hills as if we had never been apart when we were a team on earth.
This phrase best expresses my joy and elation in riding Shamus:
“We’re flying now, and it’s a wonder to me that we touch the ground at all because clearly we don’t need to. We are at the spread-on and past, to the water, and I’m letting him now, trusting him, and we’re flying. Let me, he says, and I say Yes, because how can I not…….”
I love you Shamus; goodbye for now.
Your Mom
"When I heard the news about Shamus my heart sank. He is and always will be one of my two favorite horses. It takes me back to when I had to do the same for Lincoln.
Shamus will want us to celebrate him, and what a long and wonderful life he's lived! He has done everything a horse could possibly do, and he's done it all with class, gumption, and that undeniable Shamus-spirit that we all know and cherish.
I know that Shamus absolutely agrees with your decision. He wants to go out on top. He's the Super Stud, afterall. And what a beautiful week this will be for him. You are doing right by him as you have for the past 20+ years.
my dear Shamus, I'm sending love and memories and happiness. I will miss you old friend. Lincoln is waiting at the gate for you. Ears pricked, ready to fly."
